Hornbill Festival
 organised by the Karnataka State Forest and Tourism department will be held from February 2 to 4 at the Kali Tiger Reserve at Dandeli forest in Uttara Kannada district. 

Bird watchers and professional ornithologists will have an opportunity to observe the endangered Hornbill species in their natural habitat during the festival. 

Four Hornbill species Indian Grey, Malabar Grey Great Pied and Malabar Pied are found in this part of the Western Ghats. February is the best time to spot Hornbill as Ficus trees will be fruiting and Hornbills can be seen feeding this fruits.

Participants will be taken for a guided walk to Government Timber Depot in Dandeli, Syke's Point in Ambikanagar and Supa Dam in Ganeshgudi to see Hornbills

Hornbill Photography Contest will be held as part of the festival. People can submit photographs in two categories "Hornbill portrait" and "Hornbill in their habitat". Winners will be given a cash price of 25,000 Rupees.
