Dholavira - 40th UNESCO World Heritage Site
Dholavira, a Harappan Era city in Kutch District of Gujarat gets the UNESCO World Heritage Site on 26th July 2021. Dholavira is the 40th UNESCO World Heritage Site in India.

Some Interesting Facts about Dholavira
- Dholavira is the fifth largest of eight major Harappan sites. The other sites are Harappa,Mohenjo-daro,Ganeriwala,Rakhigarhi,Kalibangan,Rupnagar and Lothal.
- The site was discovered in 1968 by J.P Joshi of Archaeological Survey of India(ASI).
- Dholavira is famous for water management system, multi-layered defensive mechanisms, extensive use of stone in construction and special burial structures
- Artefacts of various kinds such as copper, shell, stone, jewellery of semi precious stones, teracotta, gold, ivory have been found at this site
- Gujarat has a total of four World Heritage Sites. The other three UNESCO Heritage Site are Champaner near Pavagadh, Rani ki Vav in Patan and Ahmedabad.
