The Jagan Mohan Art Gallery is privately owned by the Mysore Royal Family. Jagan Mohan Palace was constructed in 1861 by the Wodeyar King His Highness Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. This Palace was used as the official residence when the Mysore Palace(Wodden Palace) caught fire in 1897. The construction of the new Ambavilas Palace was completed in 1912 by the British Architect Lord Henry Irvin.

The Jagan Mohan Art Galley contains painting of Raja Ravi Varma. Some of the paintings demonstrates scenes from the Hindu epic Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Art Galley has a collection of about 2000 paintings. 16 Paintings of Raja Ravi Varma was donated to the galley by Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar. Another important painting in the Art Galley is the Lady with the Lamp also know as Glow of Hope painted  by the artist Haldenkar and is placed in a dark room. This gives an illusion that the glow of the lamp is illuminating the face of the women
