200 Year Old Wellesley Bridge of Kollegal Washed Away

The 200 year old Wellesley Bridge across the Cavery River in Kollegal Taluk was washed away due to heavy rain and discharge of water from Kabini and KRS Reservoir. The water discharge from the KRS Dam is said to be the highest in last 7 Years. Nearly 40 feet of the 400meter long bridge washed away.
The Aurther Wellesley Bridge was built in memory of British Colonel Aurther Wellsely who led the British Regiment against Tipu Sultan in 1799. The bridge was built with stone pillars and connected by stone grinders and erected on the rocky bed of the stream. Tourist visiting Barachukki and Gaganachukki Falls visit this place for a heritage walk over the 400 meter long bridge to enjoy the natural beauty.
